A MESSAGE FROM THE ROANOKE SCLC ON THE PASSING OF OLIVER HILL, AN AMERICAN HERO
The Roanoke SCLC is deeply saddened by the passing of Oliver Hill, a true American hero. In an age where many Black men are afraid of their own shadows when it comes to fighting for human and civil rights and other Black men are more concerned about pimping the Black community for their own personal bank accounts through the perpetuation of negative images of the Black community, Mr. Hill's life is a lesson on how we, as Black people, should depend on one another to help one another.
Mr. Hill is a hero of mine, as well as, a hero to countless others who are deeply indebted to him for his work in making sure America stood by its promise of freedom, equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing stood in the way of this great man in making sure the term "equal justice for all" applied to all Americans, not just to a chosen few. At his passing, the Roanoke SCLC would like to say, "Thank you," to this great African-American and to this great American, Oliver Hill.
